Thursday 14th April 2016 might just be another day to you and I but for one special couple, Ceri & Paul, this was the day their dream of a big white wedding came true. You may remember we ran a competition called Get me to the Altar to mark the Leap Year. We asked daring females to propose to their unsuspecting boyfriends, live on air (!) and our winners Ceri and Paul secured themselves over 7,000 votes to win a dream wedding worth over £20,000.
For those who missed it, here’s a look back at the winners story.
A note from Oldwalls
Firstly, can we say a huge congratulations to Ceri and Paul and a massive thank you to everyone who made this dream a reality. We never anticipated such a huge reaction, from the initial idea formulated with ourselves and The Wave through to the execution and delivery, this campaign was a pleasure to be part of. After 100’s of applications, 10,000 votes, 3 finalists and 1 winner later we are proud to give you the full scoop on this magical day!

We got in touch with the newlyweds following their big day to ask them a few questions…
How did you fall in love?
Paul and I met through our love for the great outdoors. Paul runs a walking club through his gym in Port Talbot. Following various walking club trips and expeditions we grew fond of each other. We soon became inseparable and it wasn’t long before we declared our love for each other. Sometimes you just know…it feels right! We love to walk together, sit on the promenade watching the sunset or go paddle boarding, anything that keeps us together is pure bliss.
What inspired Ceri to enter the Get me to the Altar competition?
To be honest I never thought in a million years that I would propose to any guy! However that was until I met Paul and realised what true love is. We had talked loosely about getting married one day, so I was confident that he would say yes if I popped the questions, so when I realised the once in a lifetime prize that was on offer it was a no brainer to take the plunge. Paul does so much for charity and others, he rarely puts himself first so I thought, “you never know, Karma might come back around his way” and it definitely did with this prize.
What was your favourite moment from the big day?
For me the best part was the ceremony. The setting was magical, The Oakroom doors were open, sun shining through and I just could not believe I was about to tie the knot to my best friend.
What did you love about Oldwalls?
To be honest the whole experience has been incredible. The staff are so attentive; the wedding venue is absolutely breathtaking. As for the food…It was honestly mouthwatering! What amazed us the most was the fact that we were treated exactly the same as a paying customer; it was magical.
This was a once in a lifetime opportunity to win…Did it meet your expectations and why?
To be honest we felt like a couple of celebrities wherever we went after winning. People in the street were congratulating us, Facebook was going crazy and the comments that people were making really did make us feel like we were a special couple who were made for each other. The staff were always incredibly professional and friendly. We felt so much warmth from everyone, it was truly amazing and we cannot praise everyone at Oldwalls highly enough.
We think you’ll all agree, the photos from Ceri & Paul’s wedding are breathtaking and they look absolutely made for each other! We can’t think of a more deserving couple to have won this prize and we wish them all the happiness for the future.
