1. Research is key
A successful wedding always starts with research and thanks to google a plethora of content is just one click away. Have a look on partner sites such as hitched.co.uk and whittle it down to a few venues you like the look of then browse their websites. The chances are if they have a decent website you can also hope they will take pride in their venue too. Remember to keep an open mind.
2. Shortlist venues
Once you have done your research, try and shortlist your favourite venues to two or three. Did you know that when you book a private tour at Oldwalls you can also see our sister venue Fairyhill which is just 3 minutes away? To make sure you have all bases covered, book a viewing at a countryside venue AND a city centre venue. This will mean you can compare and contrast what works and what doesn’t.
3. Use social media
When you are considering booking a wedding venue, remember to check its social media channels, for example, Facebook and Instagram. Excellent wedding suppliers will be very active on social media and there will be a lot of engagement with clients. Check Trip Adviser too, as this will give you a feel of how the venue works. Pin-interest will also become your best friend for décor inspiration!

4. Be confident
Booking a wedding can be daunting for some people, after all nobody is an expert, unless you’re Elizabeth Taylor and you’ve already been married several times! Don’t be afraid to let the venue know that you’re a novice, a good venue will have well trained wedding experts on hand to make sure all of your queries are answered including supplier recommendations and ‘how to book a registrar’. Remember this is meant to be one of the most exciting decisions you will ever have to make in your life and it should be a happy one! Try not to get overwhelmed.

5. Consider your budget
In terms of honesty, being transparent about your budget is vital. Before you visit a venue, have a discussion with your fiancé about how much you are willing to pay. Once that has been decided, talk to the venue and see what they can deliver. You’ll always get more out of them if you are honest from the beginning.
6. Why wait?
If timing isn’t an issue for you and value for money is important ask the venue if they have any deals or offers for whirlwind weddings. A lot of venues will offer excellent discounts for last minute bookings. Getting swept up in the spontaneity of a same year wedding can be exciting, it worked for Prince Harry and Meghan, they had a 6-month engagement!

7. Ignore the weather
Never book a wedding venue based on the weather! The outdoor barn wedding might be tempting but if they have no indoor space is it really viable? The weather can be so temperamental (especially in Wales) so you will just end up being disappointed. To avoid any upset on the big day, ask the wedding venue about how they cater for all weathers.

8. Choose love
Whatever wedding venue you choose, always remember to be true to yourself. The most important aspect of the big day is celebrating with your friends, family and marrying the love of your life. Don’t get carried away with the detail and forget to enjoy the real things that matter.
